Pender County 9 am Update

 

Subject: 7 am Situation Brief

The Pender County EOC remains in operation this morning. Pender County Shelters remain open with a total of 308 persons.

Early surveys by Law Enforcement show light damage inland. County officials are awaiting damage information from Topsail Beach and Surf City.

The Pender County EOC has had a partial disruption of telephone service. Persons needing to make contact with the Emergency Operations Center should call 910-259-7545.

Subject: Pender County Information Update , 1 am 9/6/08

The Pender County Emergency Operations Center continues its overnight operations as Tropical Storm Hanna approaches the area. The two evacuation shelters remain open, and will be available throughout the event. Currently there are 285 persons staying at the Malpass Corner Elementary School Shelter and 11 persons at the Topsail Middle School Shelter.

Officials have received scattered reports of downed trees across the county. At this time no reports of major damage have been received.

Subject: Pender County Information Update , 3 pm 9/5/08

Pender County Emergency Officials continue to monitor the approach of Tropical Storm Hanna.

The county Emergency Operations Center opened at 12 noon, and will remain in continuous operation until conditions improve.

Pender County will be opening 2 shelters at 4 pm: Topsail Middle School on US Hwy 17 in Hampstead, and Malpass Corner Elementary School on US 421 at Malpass Corner Road. These will be opened as general population shelters.

At this time the towns of Surf City and Topsail Beach have issued a voluntary evacuation. There are no evacuation orders in effect for mainland Pender County.

Some of the early rain bands have already crossed into the county, resulting in heavy rains and limited visibility. Drivers encountering heavy rains are reminded to use extreme caution and to be aware of possible ponding on roadways.
